Jess & Henry’s Fun-Filled DIY Yorkshire Wedding at Home
There’s something truly special about a DIY wedding at home. It’s personal, relaxed, and full of heart. Jess and Henry’s day was the perfect example: a sun-soaked, joy-filled Yorkshire celebration that brought together everything they love most: family, friends, and one seriously good party.
As a Yorkshire wedding photographer, I’ve been lucky to capture all kinds of weddings, but there’s just something about a home wedding that hits differently.
Jess started the morning at a gorgeous accommodation they’d hired nearby and honestly, it could’ve been straight out of the Mediterranean Riviera. Think whitewashed walls, lush greenery, and a terrace made for sunshine.
Meanwhile, Henry was back at home getting ready with his groomsmen before heading to the local pub for a few relaxed pre-ceremony photos. It was the perfect way to start the day.

The Ceremony on the Hill
The couple chose to marry at their local church, perched perfectly on a hill overlooking the rolling Yorkshire fields. Honestly, it was one of those locations that makes you stop and take it all in; the scenery, the breeze, the sense of occasion.
The ceremony was heartfelt and emotional, with plenty of tears and laughter.
As they left the church it was time for a gorgeous confetti throw, where the wind completely took over, sending petals flying dramatically across the hillside. It was pure joy.

Drinks Reception on the Hill (With a 4x4 Cooler!)
Now, this might be one of the most “Yorkshire” things I’ve ever seen — and I mean that in the best possible way. Jess and Henry had packed a big cooler full of beers and gin & tonics in the back of their 4×4 so everyone could enjoy a mini drinks reception right there at the top of the hill.

Arriving at the Marquee
After hugs, kisses, and a few drinks in the sunshine, it was time to drive down the hill to Henry’s parents’ garden, where a huge marquee was waiting. And wow — what a setup!
The space looked incredible, filled with florals galore, a marquee bar, and long banquet tables decorated with personal touches. It felt equal parts elegant and relaxed; the perfect combination for a summer garden wedding.

Candid Moments, Family Photos & Big Entrance
Guests enjoyed more drinks and relaxed conversations while we captured some family photos and fun wedding party shots. Jess and her bridesmaids were full of energy, and the groomsmen brought their A-game — the kind of group that’s always up for a laugh.
Then it was time for one of my favourite moments of the day: the American-style high-energy entrance. Each group made their way into the marquee to cheers, applause, and laughter — with the couple entering to rapturous excitement.

Speeches Full of Tears & Laughter
If I had to sum up the speeches in one word, it would be emotional. Jess and Henry’s family and friends absolutely poured their hearts out…there were barely any dry eyes in the marquee, mine included!
As a photographer, these are the kinds of moments I love capturing most: pure, unscripted emotion. The laughter, the reactions, the tearful smiles — these are the photos that really tell the story of the day.

A Pork Pie Cake & the Quickest Golden Hour Ever
Just before the evening celebrations kicked off, we got a fleeting 30 seconds of golden hour — the briefest glow of sunshine before it disappeared. We made the most of every second, capturing some gorgeous, warm portraits of Jess and Henry among the gardens.
Then came the cake… and not just any cake. Because Henry’s family runs a bakery, it only made sense to have a giant pork pie wedding cake! It was such a brilliant, personal touch and honestly, a massive hit with guests.
As the band started setting up, you could feel the anticipation building. Jess and Henry kicked things off with an Oasis first dance that had everyone singing along from the first chord.
From there, it turned into one of the best parties I’ve ever photographed — high energy, packed dance floor, and so much joy from start to finish.
