Isle of Mull, Scotland Elopement Photographer - Sasha and Matt

Sasha & Matt’s Magical Isle of Mull Elopement: A Scotland Adventure Worth Remembering

When Sasha and Matt invited me to photograph their elopement on the Isle of Mull, I knew it was going to be something truly special. But I couldn’t have imagined just how extraordinary their day would turn out to be. Full of love, adventure, and moments that make you believe in magic, this was the kind of elopement that dreams, and Pinterest boards, are made of.

If you’re planning a Scotland elopement or just looking for inspiration, let me whisk you away to the rugged beauty of Loch Ba, where Sasha and Matt’s story unfolded.

The Journey to Loch Ba on the isle of mull

Loch Ba is one of those places that feels like a secret only a lucky few know about. For Sasha and Matt, it’s a spot close to their hearts, so it was no surprise they chose it as the backdrop for their vows. Fun fact: they recommended the place to me months before, and after visiting with my partner, it quickly became one of our favourite places too. (Let’s just say, the bar for elopement spots is officially sky-high now.)

The journey to Mull wasn’t without its drama. A few ominous ferry cancellation warnings threatened to derail the adventure, but we all managed to cross safely. Mull itself is a haven of wild beauty, but for those worried about ferry cancellations, there are plenty of other options to explore nearby – Isle of Skye Raasay, or even the Scottish mainland treasures of Glencoe and The Cairngorms. But trust me, the Isle of Mull is worth every nail-biting moment of potential ferry cancellations!

The perfect bothy

Sasha and Matt’s elopement was anchored around a fisherman’s bothy like no other. This wasn’t your average rustic retreat; this was a labour of love, transformed into an elegant and intimate space.

Picture this: dried flowers and grains hanging in delicate bunches from the beams, handmade décor crafted by Sasha and her family (hours of effort paid off tenfold), and a cosy table setup that could rival the finest wedding spreads. Add in the crackle of a fire keeping the bitter chill at bay, and you’ve got a setting that’s as welcoming as it is breathtaking.

Did I mention there was no electricity or phone signal? For about 30 glorious minutes of bumpy 4×4 driving, we left civilisation behind—and we couldn’t have been happier about it.

A wild, weathered ceremony

The weather on Mull creates the most beautifully moody atmosphere. It shifts quickly, often dramatically. Sasha and Matt braved it all, from bitter winds to an intense downpour during their ceremony. But instead of running for cover, they embraced the moment, rain and all. The sound of rain on the bothy’s tin roof and crackling fire created the cosiest elopement atmosphere.

Adventure, Birdwatching and bog hopping

After the ceremony, Sasha and Matt’s family huddled by the fire to warm up, while we embarked on an adventurous elopement session. Mull’s landscape is the kind of place that practically begs to be explored, so we obliged – jumping over rivers, dodging bogs (sometimes less successfully), and soaking in every inch of the wild beauty.

Whenever a 4×4 features at an elopement, it’s always so much fun to get creative and incorporate it into photos. This one is definitely worth a scroll for!

And let’s not forget Matt’s birdwatching passion. He and his parents took a stroll later to spot the local wildlife. Their elopement just spoke to everything Sasha and Matt loved and it was incredible.

A dog named Oakey

Oh, and how could I forget Oakey, their delightful dog and honorary guest? Oakey brought the kind of joy only dogs can – bounding through the landscape, stealing hearts, and even getting tangled in Sasha’s veil at one point. (yes, there’s a photo, and yes, it’s as amazing as it sounds.)
