How much does a wedding photographer cost?

How much dos a wedding photographer cost?

Knowing ‘how much does a wedding photographer cost’ is very valuable information when it comes to planning your big day. Of course, it’s no surprise that the price range for hiring a wedding photographer is huge! To make this question easier to answer, we’re going to discuss how much should a wedding photographer cost in the UK.

How much is the average wedding photographer in the uk?

The average cost of a wedding photographer in the UK varies massively based on numerous factors: where you’re getting married (London, for example, can be up to 3 times the price of Suffolk), the experience of the wedding photographer you’re looking to hire and the length of time you’d like your wedding photographer to work for on the day.

‘Your Perfect Wedding Photographer’ (you can find me featured on this site here), is a wedding planning website which often completes numerous surveys to help couples when it comes to planning their wedding. At the end of 2019, they found the average price of a wedding photographer in the UK is £1,590. It’s important to bear in mind, however, that this is only the average cost; I know copious wedding photographers who charge double (or even triple!) this amount. Similarly, those starting out their carers as wedding photographers, or those in lower demand regions, may charge less than the average spend.

Why is wedding photography so expensive?

This is a question that I’ve seen in forum after forum for years!

A wedding photographer – like myself, isn’t just there to take photographs of your wedding. Very often, we’ll also spend numerous days editing all the content of your big day to make it look even more special than it did in real life.

For me, on average, it takes 8 intense days to edit an entire wedding day (along with several hundred mugs of tea!)

You’re hiring a wedding photographer to attend you big day, photograph its entirety and edit all of the photographs from the day. The reason wedding photography may seem so expensive is because you’re – effectively – hiring someone (or multiple someones!) to work for your for around 2 weeks.

How much do I charge as a wedding photographer?

As a Suffolk wedding photographer – who travels around the UK to capture weddings, I try to keep my prices simple. A full-day wedding package starts from £1000. I always carry the motto of ‘selling myself as I would like to be sold to‘.

What does this mean?

This means I’m not the kind of wedding photographer who has multiple confusing packages, hourly rates and a plethora of ‘add-ons’.

I keep things simple.

Hiring me as your wedding photographer gives you full-day coverage. This means you have unlimited coverage from wedding preparations all the way through to the first dance and party! It’s really important to me that I offer all my couples unlimited wedding coverage, as the last thing I would ever want would be for something on a wedding day to overrun (as often happens!) and then have my couple worrying that they may miss out on something being photographed later in the day – or anxious that they’ll have to pay a penalty fee for this overrun!

As I said, I keep things simple.
